How to Quiet Down a Noisy Opener05/30/2016 Back To Blog
Proper Lubrication Maintenance
Most of the noise that you hear when the garage door opener runs comes from the drive when it's made from metal. This is because the drive chain found in chain drive devices and the rod find in screw drive units are made from metal. When the drive chain or rod moves inside the rail, friction is created and the noise is the result. The purpose of lubrication is to reduce the friction and therefore the noise and the wearing of the moving component too. When the opener becomes overly noisy, you should know that it’s time for lubrication. You can choose any lubricant approved by the manufacturer of your device. The ideal product should be light, and one that will not harden when the outdoor temperature drops. The best way to apply the lubricant is to make several fairly big lines along the chain or rod while leaving a few inches between them.
Effective Motor Repair
When you can hear strange noises coming from the motor unit and the opener cannot lift the door, the main gear inside the unit must have broken. This gear is made from plastic and is fairly small in size. However, it plays an extremely important role. Its job is to transfer mechanical force from the motor to the drive. For the purpose, the gear is connected to a metal sprocket via a specially designed shaft. The replacement-main gear must have the exact same size as the original one. The opener should work perfectly with the new hardware part.
